| The Animal
House pet grooming salon and the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane
Society (MHRHS) have entered into a partnership to benefit hundreds of
animals that are adopted out of the shelter each year, and those that
are still awaiting forever homes. Beginning April 2008, the MHRHS will refer adopting families of dogs from the shelter to the Animal House for professional pet grooming. New families will receive 20% off of their new dog’s first grooming. For every future grooming – for the life of the dog while this partnership is in effect – the Animal House will donate 10% of the grooming fees back to the MHRHS to use however it sees fit to best benefit the animals. “This is a wonderful opportunity for us to generate some extra funding for the animals that we are so committed to helping,” said , executive director of the MHRHS. “We’re always looking for unique ways to partner with small businesses in the community, and this seems to be a win-win for everyone. We’re looking forward to growing this relationship with the Animal House The Animal House is owned by Chiloe Hunt of Cohoes, who has been a professional pet groomer for 12 years, and a business owner for 10 years. Grooming is so important to the health and comfort of dogs,” said Hunt. “We’re excited about the opportunity to not only educate dog owners through literature that adopting families will receive, but also to hopefully become part of these dogs’ lives after they find their forever homes. Our profession is very rewarding. Hunt will volunteer their time at the shelter to groom animals in need to help them get adopted to loving families more quickly. They will also collect blankets and other items the shelter may need at various times during the year, and will offer grooming discounts to the 300 MHRHS volunteers as well as foster families. Hunt attended national dog grooming conferences and competitions as part of their commitment to continuing education to ensure that their human and four-legged clients receive the best care possible. She also work with local breeders, handlers and veterinarians to learn about breed standards, grooming techniques, health issues and other important topics.
